Breaking News: Polio Cases in Pakistan rise to 55 as 3 more confirmed

The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed three new wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases, raising Pakistan’s total to 55 this year.

The new cases were detected in DI Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as, Zhob, and Jaffarabad districts in Balochistan, affecting two female children and one male child.

DI Khan, a polio-endemic district in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has now reported six cases this year, while Zhob has confirmed its third and Jaffarabad its second.

Of the 55 cases nationwide, 26 are from Balochistan, 14 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad. Authorities stress the need for intensified efforts to eradicate the virus.
