KARACHI: The dengue situation in Sindh continues to worsen as three more people lost their lives to the virus during the past 24 hours. According to the Sindh Health Department, two deaths occurred in Karachi and one in Hyderabad.
The deceased include an 18-year-old girl from Latifabad, Hyderabad, a 30-year-old man from Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Karachi, and a 65-year-old resident of Orangi Town, Karachi, the health department confirmed.
The latest report stated that 5,180 dengue tests were conducted across the province in the last 24 hours, out of which 1,411 tested positive. In Karachi Division, 3,397 tests were conducted with 618 positive cases, while 1,783 tests were carried out in Hyderabad Division, where 793 cases were confirmed.
During the same period, 106 new patients were admitted to government hospitals and 93 to private hospitals. Currently, 213 dengue patients are under treatment in public hospitals and 251 in private healthcare facilities across Sindh.
To accommodate the rising number of patients, the health department reported that 976 beds have been allocated for dengue treatment across the province — including 258 in Karachi’s public hospitals, 155 in Hyderabad, and 563 in interior Sindh. In private hospitals, 156 beds are reserved in Karachi, 177 in Hyderabad, and 36 in interior Sindh.
The Sindh Health Department reported that the overall dengue positivity rate has climbed to 27 percent. Karachi currently has 36 laboratories conducting dengue testing — 13 public and 23 private — while Hyderabad has 18 labs (7 public and 11 private).
Authorities said that preventive measures have been intensified across Sindh, including large-scale fumigation, anti-mosquito spraying, and improvements in drainage systems. District officers have been instructed to ensure that no standing water remains, as it is the primary source of mosquito breeding.
