KARACHI: The Academic Council of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (Jinnah Hospital) has approved a resolution regarding the appointment of the hospital’s Executive Director, demanding that the position be given only to a senior, permanent, devolved employee of the institution.
The council’s meeting, held on Friday, began with expressions of deep sorrow over the passing of former Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital, Professor Shahid Rasool. Members offered prayers for the departed soul.
During the meeting, a resolution concerning the appointment of the new Executive Director was presented by Professor Haleema Yasmin and was passed with a majority vote.
Approval of the minutes of the previous meeting was given by Professor Tanveer Ahmed, with endorsement by Professor Zeeshan.
The council held an in-depth discussion on the future leadership of Jinnah Hospital. Professor Khalid Sher briefed the members that the position of Executive Director must only be assigned to a suitable candidate from within Jinnah Hospital’s academic or administrative cadre, specifically those who are permanent and part of the devolved employee structure. Senior officials—Dr. Muhammad Suleman, Dr. Yahya, and Dr. Nosheen—were invited as co-opted members for the discussion.
All council members and co-opted members unanimously agreed that Professor Khalid Sher was the most qualified and suitable candidate for the role. The council also decided that any appointment made from outside Jinnah Hospital would be strongly resisted and met with protest.
The unanimously passed resolution further recommended that the Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital must be the senior-most permanent employee belonging to either the academic or administrative cadre of the institution.
In other matters, the council approved the inclusion of Professor Hazrat Bilal as a member of the Academic Council. It was also decided that the issue of Emergency Medicine trainees would be taken up with the President of CPSP. Additionally, the council agreed that all academic affairs would be overseen by the Dean of Jinnah Hospital and the Chairperson of the Academic Council.
