Identification Process of Victims Begins After Gul Plaza Tragedy

Karachi: The formal identification process of those martyred in the Gul Plaza tragedy has begun. DNA profiling has been initiated at the Medico-Legal Centre Karachi to identify more than 60 missing persons.


According to officials, blood samples and buccal swabs are being collected for the identification of the bodies. The samples for DNA testing have been properly sealed and handed over into safe custody.


Police Surgeon, Dr. Sumayya Syed, stated that the identification of the bodies will be carried out through DNA cross-matching. She confirmed that DNA samples from six bodies have been collected so far, while samples from nine relatives of the missing persons have also been obtained.


Dr. Samia Syed further informed that all collected samples have been sent to the University of Karachi’s forensic laboratory for DNA analysis.
The Police Surgeon added that the identification process has officially commenced and will continue until all victims are identified.
