PMA Forms Inquiry Committee Over Dr. Abdul Karim Shaikh Incident

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Sindh has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the tragic incident involving Dr. Abdul Karim Shaikh, while the central leadership has also called for urgent intervention.
According to an official notification, the decision was taken during an emergency meeting of PMA Sindh, where a high-level committee was formed to thoroughly probe the circumstances surrounding the incident. The committee has been directed to submit its preliminary report within five working days.
The inquiry body will be headed by senior physician Dr. Rasheed Ahmed Lakhair, with other experienced doctors included as members. The committee will collect evidence, record witness statements, and ensure a transparent and impartial investigation.
The probe will specifically examine allegations of professional harassment and administrative pressure, while coordination with the Sindh Health Department and law enforcement agencies has also been emphasized.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Medical Association Centre has termed the incident deeply disturbing and has urged immediate action. In an official letter, Secretary General Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Shoro stated that the incident is not merely a personal tragedy but a serious concern for the dignity, safety, and mental well-being of the entire medical community—particularly those serving in remote areas.
The letter further urged PMA Sindh and PMA Tharparkar to treat the case as a “test case” and take swift steps, including a high-level inquiry, support for the victim’s family, and ensuring a transparent legal process.
PMA has made it clear that it will not tolerate any form of victimization, negligence, or professional harassment, and that a fair and unbiased investigation must be ensured.
Experts have also highlighted the urgent need to improve security measures and mental health support for doctors working in remote regions to prevent such incidents in the future.
