Weather Alert: Heavy rains forecast for Pothohar region, urban flooding, landslides, power outages feared: NDMA

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for the Potohar region, warning of widespread heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that could trigger urban flooding, landslides, flash floods and power outages in the next 12 to 24 hours.

According to the advisory, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and adjoining districts are likely to receive heavy downpours, particularly during night and early morning hours. Authorities cautioned that weak structures and trees may collapse under the impact of thunderstorms, while dust and rain could reduce visibility and increase the risk of road accidents.

The NDMA said poorly drained and low-lying urban areas face the highest risk of waterlogging, while hilly areas are vulnerable to landslides and flash flooding. Power supply could also be disrupted as strong winds may topple electric poles and damage lines.

Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from weak structures, trees and signboards, and park vehicles in covered spaces to protect them from falling branches and debris. The NDMA further advised the public to keep monitoring weather updates and strictly follow instructions issued by local officials.
