New Congo Virus Case Confirmed in Karachi

Karachi: A new case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) has been confirmed in Karachi, sparking fresh concerns over the spread of the deadly virus.

The patient, 33-year-old Muhammad Irfan, a resident of Bhains Colony, Landhi, tested positive for the Congo virus by the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) lab and currently undergoing treatment at an isolated ward at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Karachi.

According to doctors, he was admitted with a high fever, severe body pain, and bleeding from the mouth — all classic symptoms of the viral infection.

He was immediately shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he remains under treatment. Hospital sources say his condition has improved since admission.

This is the latest in a string of CCHF cases reported in Karachi. In June, two people, including a young butcher, died of the disease.

Medical experts warn that the virus is commonly transmitted through ticks found on infected animals, especially during slaughter or direct handling.

With Eid-ul-Adha recently observed, healthcare professionals are urging the public to take extra precautions while dealing with sacrificial animals to prevent further infections.
