Karachi: Health authorities in Karachi have reported another case of mpox, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the city to 10.
The latest patient is a 40-year-old resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar who tested positive for the virus and has been admitted to the isolation ward of NIPA Hospital for treatment and monitoring.
Hospital officials said the diagnosis was confirmed through a PCR test. They added that the patient had no recent travel history, a factor that could raise concerns about local transmission of the virus.
With the latest infection, the number of mpox cases reported at NIPA Hospital has reached seven, while the city’s overall tally now stands at 10.
Health authorities said the patient has been isolated and standard infection prevention and control measures have been implemented to reduce the risk of further spread.
Officials are also carrying out contact tracing and monitoring close contacts of the patient as part of routine public health surveillance.
Pakistan has witnessed sporadic mpox cases over the past two years, with health experts emphasizing the importance of early detection, isolation of infected individuals and public awareness to prevent transmission.
Mpox is a viral disease that can cause fever, swollen lymph nodes and a characteristic skin rash. The virus spreads through close physical contact with infected individuals, contaminated materials or infected animals.
