KARACHI: Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, a case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (Congo virus) has been confirmed in Sindh after a 17-year-old youth from Tando Muhammad Khan tested positive.
According to hospital sources, the patient, Muhammad Asif, was brought to Karachi two days ago with high fever and bleeding symptoms. After initial treatment, he was shifted to Infectious Diseases Hospital Karachi for specialized care. His samples were sent to Aga Khan University Hospital laboratory, where the presence of the virus was confirmed.
Officials said the teenager was involved in livestock handling in Tando Muhammad Khan, increasing the risk of exposure to the virus. If verified as per records, this marks the first confirmed Congo virus case in Sindh this year.
Health experts warn that Congo virus is primarily transmitted through ticks found on animals, particularly cattle, and the risk increases during Eid-ul-Adha due to increased animal handling.
Advisory for Public:
Health professionals urge citizens and livestock handlers to take precautionary measures, including wearing gloves, avoiding direct contact with animal blood or bodily fluids, and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms such as sudden fever or bleeding appear.
