First Dengue Death Reported in Karachi This Year

Karachi: The first death from dengue virus has been reported in Karachi this year, according to the Sindh Health Department spokesperson. The deceased patient belonged to District East.


The spokesperson stated that a total of 198 dengue cases have been reported across Sindh so far this year, with 163 cases recorded in the Karachi Division alone.


In other divisions, Hyderabad has reported 24 dengue cases, Mirpurkhas 8 cases, and Sukkur 3 cases.


Meanwhile, malaria cases have also seen a significant rise across the province. The Sindh Health Department confirmed that 20,123 malaria cases have been reported so far this year.


Karachi has recorded 184 malaria cases, including 88 cases in District South, 29 each in District West and Malir, 19 in Korangi, 10 in East, 4 in Keamari, and 5 cases in Central District.


Other regions reported high malaria numbers as well, with 7,765 cases in Hyderabad Division, 2,205 in Sukkur, 5,468 in Larkana, 1,957 in Mirpurkhas, and 2,544 cases in Shaheed Benazirabad Division.


Health authorities have urged citizens to take preventive measures, avoid stagnant water, and protect themselves against mosquito bites to curb the spread of both dengue and malaria.
