Karachi: Rabies Case Reported in Garden, 42-Year-Old Man Dies; Death Toll Rises to 7

Karachi: A new rabies case has been reported from the Garden area, where a 42-year-old man died during treatment at Indus Hospital and Health Network.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the patient had been bitten by a suspected rabid dog about a month ago. Due to the lack of timely and complete treatment, he later developed symptoms of rabies. He was brought to the hospital with fever, severe anxiety, and hydrophobia (fear of water). However, his condition deteriorated late last night, and he could not survive.
Medical experts emphasize that immediate vaccination and administration of Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) after a dog bite are critical, as rabies is a fatal disease if left untreated. The Rabies Prevention and Training Center at Indus Hospital reported that over 5,000 dog-bite victims have been treated since January this year.
Officials stated that a total of five patients with rabies symptoms had been brought to the hospital, and all of them succumbed to the disease. With the latest death, the total number of rabies-related fatalities this year has risen to seven.
Experts have urged the public not to ignore dog bites and to seek immediate medical care, warning that even minor negligence can cost lives.
