Shaukat Khanum Hospital seeks access to Imran Khan amid reports of serious eye condition

Lahore: The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has expressed grave concern over reports circulating since last night suggesting that former prime minister Imran Khan is suffering from a serious eye condition, identified as central retinal vein occlusion, and has formally requested immediate access to assess and participate in his medical care.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the hospital said multiple reports were in circulation regarding Mr Khan’s health, indicating that he may be affected by central retinal vein occlusion, a condition that can be associated with several underlying medical disorders.

The hospital clarified that it was not possible to independently verify the authenticity of these reports at this stage.

However, it noted that the seriousness of the reported condition warranted deep concern about Mr Khan’s health.

While reaffirming full confidence in the competence and professionalism of the physicians currently treating him, Shaukat Khanum Hospital said it had nonetheless requested that a team of its own physicians be granted immediate access to Mr Khan and be allowed to participate in his care.

The hospital said this step was necessary to reassure all those who are concerned about his wellbeing and to ensure that he receives comprehensive and transparent medical attention.

Central retinal vein occlusion is a potentially serious eye condition that can lead to sudden vision impairment and is often linked with systemic health issues such as hypertension, diabetes and vascular disorders, requiring timely evaluation and multidisciplinary management.
