Karachi: During a journey on the Rehman Baba Express, a woman gave birth to a baby girl. In this sudden emergency, young doctors traveling on the train, with the support of the Railway Police, provided timely medical assistance, ensuring the safety of both mother and newborn.
The incident occurred when the train was halted at Dhabeji Railway Station due to an engine fault, leaving passengers distressed by the prolonged delay.
According to details, the woman passenger, traveling in coach number eight of the train from Karachi Cantt to Tando Adam, suddenly fell ill and went into severe labor pain. Due to limited facilities, a confined compartment, and the unexpected nature of the situation, moments of panic spread among the passengers. Fellow travelers immediately cleared space around the woman and informed the train staff. Head Constable Shoaib Raza, deployed on the train, promptly grasped the seriousness of the situation and called for doctors present among the passengers.
Despite the challenging conditions and limited resources, the young doctors displayed professionalism and composure, began attending to the patient, and successfully conducted the delivery on board. Soon after, news of the arrival of a newborn baby spread through the coach, replacing fear and anxiety with relief and prayers. Passengers described the moments as indescribable, witnessing new life emerge amid uncertainty.
According to the doctors, after delivery the woman was not fit to continue traveling. The Railway Police immediately contacted Rescue 1122. An ambulance arrived at the scene, and after initial medical care, preparations were made to shift the mother and newborn to a hospital. As no suitable nearby hospital was available, the woman’s family decided to take both mother and baby to a hospital in Korangi.
Railway Police officials stated that full cooperation was ensured throughout the incident, and due to timely measures no complications arose. The condition of both the mother and the newborn baby girl was reported to be stable.
Sources said that the young doctors who assisted in the delivery are affiliated with Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba. They were identified as Dr. Osama Amin from Dow University Ojha Campus, Saifullah Minhas from Jinnah Sindh Medical University, and Abdul Haleem from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. They were traveling on the Rehman Baba Express to attend an organizational gathering in Peshawar.
Passengers and railway staff remarked that had these young doctors not been present in time and shown professional expertise, the situation could have taken a serious turn.
