Symposium on Cervical Cancer Awareness & Launch of HPV Vaccination

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Pakistan (SOGP) successfully hosted a Symposium on Cervical Cancer Awareness and the launch of HPV vaccination at Sobhraj Maternity Hospital on Thursday, 14th September 2025.
The hybrid event, also streamed via Microsoft Teams, gathered doctors, nurses and hospital administrators.

The session opened with the recitation of the Holy Quran, a Naat and the National Anthem.
Dr. Asma welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of raising awareness and preventive strategies against cervical cancer.

Prof. Tazeen Abbas, Secretary General SOGP, moderated the session and underscored the vital role of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer. She urged parents to seize this opportunity to protect their daughters’ future.

Prof. Iqbal Memon explained the benefits of vaccinating girls aged 9–14 and addressed common myths and misconceptions.

Dr. Khalid Ashraf shared how NITAG included HPV vaccine in the national program, acknowledging Prof. Azizunnisa Abbasi, President SOGP, for her leading role. He confirmed that Pakistan is the 150th country to adopt this safe and long-lasting vaccine, already used in 149 countries.

Dr. Maryam Noman, young oncologist, presented key facts about cervical cancer and encouraged everyone to advocate for HPV vaccination.
Dr. Sadaf Jeffrey presented Sindh’s vaccination statistics, and Dr. Farhana Memon explained how the RMNCH program is reaching out-of-school girls.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sonia, appreciating all speakers and participants for making the symposium impactful.
