Depression forms over east-central Arabian Sea, no threat to Pakistan coast: PMD

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday said a weather depression has formed over the east-central Arabian Sea and is moving northeastward, but poses no threat to Pakistan’s coastal areas, including Karachi.

According to the PMD’s Marine Meteorology and Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre, the system was located near latitude 17.0°N and longitude 67.8°E, about 880 kilometres south-southeast of Karachi and 510 kilometres west-southwest of Veraval, Gujarat (India).

The department said the depression is likely to move north-northeastward across the east-central Arabian Sea over the next 24 hours. However, under its influence, light rain or drizzle may occur in parts of Tharparkar district.

“There is currently no threat to any Pakistani coastal area,” the PMD said, adding that its cyclone warning centre in Karachi is closely monitoring the system and will keep relevant authorities informed.

Satellite imagery issued at 10:30 PST on October 28, 2025, shows the developing weather system in the east-central Arabian Sea, with surrounding cloud formations moving northward.

The PMD said the situation is being regularly reviewed and any changes in intensity or direction will be immediately shared with disaster management authorities in Sindh and Balochistan.
