KARACHI: The dengue situation in Sindh continues to worsen as two more people lost their lives to the virus during the past 24 hours, according to the Sindh Health Department. The deceased include a two-year-old child and a 52-year-old man, both of whom were under treatment at a government hospital in Hyderabad.
According to the health department’s report, a total of 5,742 dengue tests were conducted across the province in the last 24 hours, out of which 1,558 tested positive. In Karachi Division, 4,010 tests were conducted, yielding 758 positive cases, while 1,732 tests were carried out in Hyderabad Division, with 800 cases reported.
The report further stated that during the same period, 149 new patients were admitted to both public and private hospitals across the province — including 81 in government hospitals and 68 in private healthcare facilities. As of now, 201 dengue patients are being treated in government hospitals, while 180 are admitted to private hospitals.
Government hospitals in Karachi have 251 beds allocated for dengue patients, 116 beds in Hyderabad, and 528 beds in hospitals across interior Sindh — bringing the total number of dengue-designated beds in government facilities to 895.
The report added that the overall dengue positivity rate across Sindh currently stands at 27 percent. In Karachi, 36 laboratories are providing dengue testing facilities — 13 government-run and 23 private — while in Hyderabad, 18 laboratories are operational, including 7 public and 11 private.
Sindh Health Secretary Rehan Baloch stated that 2,090 confirmed dengue cases have been reported across the province this month, bringing the total number of cases in 2025 to 2,735. He added that 1,005 cases have been reported in Karachi Division, 938 in Hyderabad Division, 114 in Mirpurkhas, 13 in Sukkur, 14 in Shaheed Benazirabad, and 6 in Larkana Division.
The health secretary further announced significant reductions in diagnostic test charges in Karachi to provide financial relief to citizens. The malaria test fee has been reduced from Rs 3,000 to Rs 600, the dengue test fee from Rs 3,450 to Rs 1,100, the dengue combo test from Rs 4,150 to Rs 1,500, and the follow-up CBC test from Rs 1,250 to Rs 500.
