Karachi: Following the emergence of new Nipah virus cases in India, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Sindh has issued an advisory, stating that no case of Nipah virus has been reported in Pakistan so far.
According to the advisory, Nipah virus is a highly fatal zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans and, in certain cases, from human to human. The virus can cause severe respiratory illness and fatal encephalitis.
The Director General Health Sindh has directed all public and private hospitals, medical superintendents, district health officers, and relevant institutions to strictly implement the guidelines issued by the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health (NIH).
The advisory highlights that the early symptoms of Nipah virus include fever, headache, cough, body aches, and vomiting. In severe cases, patients may develop breathing difficulties and brain inflammation.
Medical experts have stated that the virus may spread due to multiple factors, emphasizing the need for preventive measures.
Citizens have been advised to consume fresh fruits and nutritious food during the winter season and to wash food items thoroughly before use to reduce health risks.
