Islamabad: The federal health ministry has given the charge of Secretary, Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, to Dr Muhammad Akhtar Abbas Khan, Director at the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, through an official order issued by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.
The appointment has been made with the concurrence of the President of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan and has taken immediate effect. Dr Khan will hold the charge for a period of three months or until the appointment of a regular incumbent, whichever is earlier.
The Pharmacy Council of Pakistan is the statutory regulatory body responsible for regulating pharmacy education and professional practice in the country. Its functions include accreditation and inspection of pharmacy institutions, registration of pharmacists, and ensuring minimum standards of education and practice in line with national laws.
As secretary of the council, Dr Khan will oversee administrative and regulatory affairs, implement decisions of the council, coordinate with federal and provincial authorities, and ensure compliance with pharmacy laws and service rules. The position also involves facilitating council meetings, supervising registration and inspection processes, and supporting policy decisions related to pharmacy education and professional standards.
Officials said the move is intended to ensure continuity in the functioning of the Pharmacy Council during the interim period.
