New Polio Case Reported in Karachi East, Country’s Tally Reaches Seven This Year

KARACHI: A new polio was reported from Karachi east District on Monday taking the total number of polio cases reported in the country this year to seven, according to the Sindh Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

Of the seven cases reported in 2026, five are from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two from Sindh.

The Sindh EOC said the last polio case from Karachi was reported in December 2024. Following the detection of the new case, authorities have stressed the importance of vaccination and urged parents to ensure that all children under five receive polio drops during every campaign.

The Sub-National Polio Vaccination Campaign will be conducted from November 2 to 8, 2026, in 97 districts across the country, including all districts of Karachi.

More than 23.9 million children under the age of five will be vaccinated against polio during the campaign, with polio workers visiting households to administer the vaccine.

According to the Sindh EOC, polio is an incurable disease, but it can be prevented through vaccination. Children must receive polio drops during every campaign, even if they have been vaccinated several times before.

Parents have also been urged to complete their children’s routine immunization course on time alongside the polio vaccine.

The Sindh EOC called on all segments of society, including parents, teachers, religious scholars and community leaders, to play their full part in supporting efforts to eradicate polio and protect children from the crippling disease.
