Karachi: The dengue outbreak in Sindh continues to worsen as the number of infections and fatalities keeps rising. According to the latest report issued by the Sindh Health Department, two more citizens lost their lives to dengue within the last 24 hours, raising the provincial death toll to nine this year.
The report confirmed that a 60-year-old woman from Afandi Town, Hyderabad, and a 27-year-old man from Tando Allahyar succumbed to the virus while under treatment at a government hospital in Hyderabad.
During the last 24 hours, 5,978 dengue tests were conducted across Sindh, out of which 1,589 came back positive. The total number of confirmed dengue cases across the province has now reached 9,819.
In Karachi alone, 4,444 tests were conducted, and 876 were positive, bringing the city’s total dengue cases this year to 4,695. In Hyderabad Division, 1,534 tests were performed, and 713 infections were confirmed.
Health officials reported that 88 patients were admitted to government hospitals and 92 to private hospitals in the last 24 hours. Currently, 210 dengue patients are under treatment in government facilities, while 183 are being treated in private hospitals.
Medical experts have warned that the current humid weather conditions are ideal for mosquito breeding, resulting in a surge of dengue cases. They urged the public to eliminate stagnant water, use mosquito repellents regularly, and seek immediate medical attention if they experience fever, headache, or body pain.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Health Department said that anti-dengue measures are being intensified across the province. Hospitals have been instructed to increase bed capacity, and fumigation drives have been accelerated in urban areas.
Doctors have cautioned that if preventive measures are not strictly followed, the situation could deteriorate further in the coming days.
