Novo Nordisk takes leading Pakistani doctors, DRAP officials to Denmark for diabetes, obesity solutions

Islamabad: Novo Nordisk Pakistan has led a high-level delegation of senior healthcare professionals, government officials, healthcare associations, and policy decision-makers to Copenhagen to explore Denmark’s advanced healthcare system and innovative approaches to tackling diabetes and obesity.

The initiative comes at a time when Pakistan is facing an alarming rise in chronic diseases, with nearly 34.5 million people living with diabetes and around 38 million with obesity.

Delegates studied Denmark’s models of early intervention and patient-centered care, with discussions focused on how these lessons could be localized to improve outcomes and support reforms in Pakistan’s fragile healthcare system.

Rashid Rafique Butt, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pakistan, said diabetes and obesity were among the fastest-growing health challenges in the country.

“Healthcare professionals are central to addressing them. Through this collaboration, we aimed to empower them with insights and tools to elevate standards of care and create healthier communities. This initiative reflects our commitment to drive change in Pakistan through innovation and sustainable solutions,” he said.

Peter Emil Nielsen, Denmark’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, said the knowledge exchange was a step forward in strengthening healthcare ties between the two countries.

“By sharing best practices and innovations, we are equipping healthcare professionals and policy leaders to play a stronger role in combating chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity,” he noted.

Novo Nordisk said it would continue to work with local partners and international experts to support long-term health outcomes for Pakistanis, focusing on collaboration, innovation, and sustainable progress.
