Karachi: A fresh case of mpox has been reported in Karachi, with health officials confirming transmission within a single household, raising concerns about close-contact spread of the virus.
According to hospital authorities, a 42-year-old man from Malir, who had earlier been diagnosed with mpox, has recovered and was discharged from the NIPA Infectious Diseases Hospital. Soon after his return home, his 41-year-old wife developed symptoms consistent with the infection.
Officials said the woman tested positive for mpox and has been admitted to the same facility, where she is receiving treatment. Health experts believe the infection was most likely transmitted through close contact between the الزوجین.
Hospital sources said the couple’s children have not shown any symptoms so far, but they are being monitored closely as a precautionary measure.
With the latest case, the total number of mpox infections reported in Karachi has risen to five this year. Across Sindh, a total of 26 confirmed cases and nine deaths have been recorded to date, according to health department data.
The Sindh health department has directed hospitals across the province to remain on alert and ensure strict infection prevention measures, while advising citizens to seek immediate medical care if they develop symptoms associated with mpox.
