Dengue claims two more lives in Sindh, death toll 31

Karachi: The dengue outbreak in Sindh continues to worsen as two more patients, including a 44-year-old woman from Karachi’s Central district and a 13-year-old boy from Hyderabad, succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours.

According to Sindh Health Department Secretary Rehan Baloch, the total death toll from dengue in the province this year has reached 31.

During the same period, 4,611 dengue tests were conducted across Sindh, with 829 positive cases confirmed.

Of these, 419 cases were detected in Karachi Division out of 3,094 tests, while 410 cases were confirmed in Hyderabad Division from 1,517 tests.

In the past 24 hours, 101 new patients were admitted to public hospitals and 82 to private facilities. Meanwhile, 123 patients in government hospitals and 93 in private hospitals have recovered and been discharged.

This month alone, 8,891 dengue cases have been recorded across Sindh, bringing the total number of cases this year to 14,468.

Currently, 245 patients are under treatment in public hospitals and 173 in private hospitals.

To handle the influx, the Sindh Health Department has allocated 1,025 beds for dengue patients in government hospitals—291 in Karachi, 167 in Hyderabad, and 556 in other districts. Private hospitals have 480 beds reserved for dengue patients—204 in Karachi, 211 in Hyderabad, and 65 in interior Sindh.

Data is being collected from 55 laboratories across the province. Karachi has 36 testing laboratories (13 public and 23 private), while Hyderabad has 19 labs (8 public and 11 private) actively conducting dengue diagnostics.

Health experts continue to urge citizens to eliminate stagnant water, maintain cleanliness, and take preventive measures to control the spread of dengue mosquitoes.
