Iran war-hit students allowed NEB to continue medical education

Islamabad: Pakistani medical and dental students affected by conflict situations abroad, particularly those studying in countries like Iran, will be allowed to appear in the National Examination Board (NEB) on May 16, 2026, as the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council opened a pathway for their transfer and continuation of education in Pakistan.

In a formal announcement, the PMDC said the NEB examination will be held in Rawalpindi, with the registration portal opening from April 9 to April 24, urging all eligible candidates to complete their registration within the stipulated timeline.

The NEB, conducted twice a year, assesses the academic knowledge, clinical skills and professional competence of Pakistani students who have partially completed their medical or dental education abroad and seek admission or transfer to local institutions.

Officials said the computer-based examination will consist of multiple-choice questions and is mandatory for students seeking continuation of studies in Pakistan.

Under the eligibility criteria, students enrolled in foreign medical and dental colleges who have completed at least two years of education and have progressed to the third year are eligible to sit the examination.

The council said the upcoming exam also provides an opportunity for Pakistani students currently studying in Iran, many of whom have faced disruption due to the prevailing situation, to continue their education through formal transfer mechanisms.

Students have been advised to complete all required formalities under the prescribed rules and ensure timely registration to avoid missing the opportunity.

At the same time, the PMDC cautioned parents and students planning to pursue medical and dental education abroad to carefully assess security conditions and academic prospects before making decisions, stressing that student safety remains a priority.

Detailed information regarding the examination schedule, syllabus and test centre has been made available on the PMDC website, with candidates advised to regularly check for updates and further instructions.
